Meet the Compass Jellyfish

July 17, 2013

COMPASS JELLYFISH

Dip, dip, jellyfish
in the sea,
won’t sting you, so
don’t sting me.

If you do then
it will be
dip, dip, jellyfish
out goes he.

Dip, dip, jellyfish
in the sea,
won’t sting you, so
don’t sting me.

If you do then
it will be
dip, dip, jellyfish
out goes she.

This jellyfish was swimming in the sea with me today. We didn’t shake hands – or tentacles! It’s a Compass Jellyfish and, as it wasn’t very big, I’m guessing it was a young one. (PLEASE NOTE: even if the jellyfish had stung me, I should NOT really have thrown her out of the water, nor hurt her – my poem is only meant to be a playground dip!)

As school holidays start I hope this lovely sunny weather lasts. Keep safe. Only swim in safe places and make sure your family knows where you are. If you have a camera, try and find something unusual to photograph every day – or something ordinary from a unusual, new angle. Then, write down any words that spring to mind and see if you can work these into a poem to go with your picture.
