Poets Advance to Retreat

October 31, 2010

What a fantastic, amazing, stupendous few days I’ve just spent with eleven other poets! Can you imagine how exciting that is? A dozen poets all chatting, cooking, eating, drinking, listening, playing, creating, reciting, singing, walking, laughing, writing together – for a whole week! Let me introduce you … Here’s Philip Waddell – he organised our venue, at Folly Farm in the Chew Valley, Somerset.

And here’s Roger Stevens. He planned our timetable, so that we could make best use of our time together.

And who else was there?

Liz Brownlee,      Gerard Benson,    Catherine Benson,    John Rice and Sue Hardy-Dawson,

Jane Clarke,                       Bernard Young,        Andrea Shavick     and    Trevor Parsons.

So that’s 11 of us … and then there was me. Here’s Jane looking for me inside a hollow oak and finding the sky (or has she discovered where ideas come from?) Can you spot me camouflaged against the old oak tree?

Many of these poets have their own websites. Look at the blogroll to find them.

    It sounds so wonderful.

We all had a wonderful time and thought up hundreds of new poems. I expect some of them will be appearing in an anthology near you soon. My favourite bit was when Celia found a magical hat. When she put it on her had she turned into a pixie.

… which is probably why Jane was looking for me inside a hollow oak tree …!
