Listen Again

July 2, 2009

A limerick of mine was read by Ian McMillan on Radio 3’s Breakfast show. It was submitted in reponse to a request for serious limericks.

Streets are empty. Sky’s grey. All is dead.
I’ve old newspaper-sheets for my bed.
Close my eyes and I see
A warm fire, cup of tea …
Yes, it’s cosier inside my head.

Another, not broadcast, appears on BBC’s Radio 3 website:

See patches of mist in soft focus;
See flowers, profuse and precocious;
See cloudlets of blue,
An ethereal view;
See a bush; see a tree: ceanothus.

Both these limericks are included in the on-going international project to create a lyrical dictionary of every word in the English language: the Omnificent English Dictionary In Limerick Form – OEDILF.
